Abstract

The concept of digitization currently focuses on future IT topics such as Industry 4.0, Cloud Computing and Big Data, which enforce the digital transformation of business processes, value chains and markets. As a result of this development, new job profiles are being developed which combine economic and information technology competences. A question which has only been inadequately addressed in theory and practice is to what extent the job profiles and competences required for digitization also correspond to the model of sustainable development. Thus, the digitalization of business processes and value chains promises to be a potentially decisive instrument for achieving corporate sustainability goals. For this reason, this project report provides an overview of the results of an exploratory job advertisement analysis, which covers job advertisements from job portals for German SMEs. In the course of this study, we analyzed the relevance of the concepts of sustainability and digitization in the labor market and which job profiles are in demand in this context. The work is the partial result of a research group which is involved in the digitization of SMEs as part of a project sponsored by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU).
